Melissa, also known as lemon balm, was named Melissa because of its sweet, fresh, citrusy scent that was known to attract bees (Greek melissa = honey bee). As one of doTERRA's rarest and most expensive oils, this oil has a wide range of health and usage benefits.

The oil is used as a flavor in tea and ice cream, as well as some fish dishes. Melissa is distilled by steam from the fresh, flowering tops, leaves and stems of the plant. Because of its positive effect on mood, Melissa has long been used to calm emotions and tension and nervousness. The oil can also be supportive of a healthy immune system. In Melissa's history, the oil was also known for addressing stomach ailments and against insects.
