Nerol (lemongrass ) and gastrointestinal tract

In this age of industry and convenience, we are all exposed to toxins on a daily basis. Barring massive environmental exposure, the gastrointestinal tract is one of the main sites exposed to toxins throughout the body. Repeated exposure to toxins in the gastrointestinal tract can lead to suboptimal function and harmful changes that highlight the need for a health regimen that protects against such damage.

To do this, researchers in Mexico conducted a study to determine whether nerol, a small compound found in the essential oil of lemongrass, may have a stomach-protective effect when ingested. They found that nerol had a profound protective effect at moderately low levels of intake. At the molecular level, the researchers found that nerol helped maintain a healthy inflammatory response to toxic exposure. While further research is warranted, these results are encouraging and add to the growing body of evidence supporting the use of natural supplements.
