Woman in power

Another view of menopause

When we talk about menopause, we often hear mostly about its challenges. But did you know that menopause is actually a special evolutionary gift? A gift that only occurs in three mammal species on Earth: humans, orcas and short-finned sperm whales. Ok, maybe not the most charming mammals to compare themselves to but still, this fascinating fact got me thinking about a totally different perspective on this stage of life.

Evolutionary wisdom: freedom for growth

Virtually all mammals remain fertile until the end of their lives. But we humans, along with our large oceanic companions, are different. Scientists call this the “grandmother hypothesis.” Evolution has allowed women to live long and healthy lives beyond their childbearing years. Why? Because their wisdom, strength and experience are indispensable for the survival of the community! Just as ancient orca females take the lead to bring their pod (family) to the best fishing grounds and pass on their knowledge about survival to younger generations, human women have been contributing to the survival and flourishing of their families and communities for millennia after their fruitful years. Evolution has given us women a gift. Consider this: after menopause, our bodies no longer need to expend energy on the arduous task of potential pregnancies or monthly menstrual cycles. Instead, we can use this energy for personal growth, leadership and the pursuit of new goals. It is programmed into your biology, so to speak, to reinvent yourself! If this does not motivate you to do everything in your power to age fit and strong, I don't know what does! This inspired me to really do everything I can to live my femininity in all its intentions.

Inspiring examples

Look at these inspiring women who are thriving after age 50. They perfectly illustrate how age need not be a limitation to leadership and success – in fact, it can be an advantage through accumulated experience and wisdom. – Ernestine Shepherd did not start bodybuilding until she was 56 and became the world's oldest female bodybuilder – Diana Nyad swam from Cuba to Florida at 64 – Tao Porchon-Lynch was still teaching yoga classes until she was 101 – Carmen Dell'Orefice is still walking the catwalk at 91 – Christine Lagarde became the first female President of the European Central Bank at 63 (2019). Before that, she was Managing Director of the IMF. She is known for her keen insight and is often praised for her elegant, confident appearance. Now in her late 60s, she is one of the most influential leaders in global economics. – At 58, Kathryn Bigelow became the first woman ever to win an Oscar for Best Director (for The Hurt Locker, 2010). In a male-dominated industry, she not only broke the glass ceiling, but continues to make innovative films. She shows that creative power knows no age. – Martha Stewart built her greatest success after age 40, and even after a personal crisis in her 60s, she came back stronger. Now in her 80s, she continues to innovate her brand and is still a leading voice in lifestyle and entrepreneurship.

Organic younger – is it possible?

My own experience confirms that your biological age can decrease. Thanks to my smart scale, I can see how my biological age is decreasing instead of increasing since I made my lifestyle changes. This is no accident – it's what happens when you give your body the right support during this powerful transition. One of the most fascinating discoveries I made was the connection between body fat and hormonal balance. Indeed, fat tissue produces estrogen, and when I optimized my body fat percentage, I noticed a dramatic improvement in my energy and vitality. This is not a coincidence, but pure science.

What made the difference for me?

1. Nutrition as an essential foundation

Some crucial principles I use for hormonal balance and energy:

  • Avoid processed foods: they often contain hidden sugars, unhealthy fats and additives that can disrupt your hormone balance
  • Choose a sugar-conscious diet: drastic fluctuations in your blood sugar levels can exacerbate hot flashes and mood swings
  • Focus on anti-inflammatory foods: think omega-3 rich fish, green leafy vegetables, nuts and seeds
  • Eat enough protein: essential for maintaining muscle mass and a healthy weight
  • Choose complex carbohydrates: whole grain products, legumes and vegetables for stable energy

But this is definitely the starting point for everyone: get a nutrition coach if necessary and consciously strategize your nutrition. Build a plan that works for you and stick to it. This doesn't mean never indulging – it's about balance and consistency in your daily choices. I also use natural supplements to prevent mineral and vitamin deficiencies.

2. Movement with intention

– Weekly 15-21 kilometers of running for endurance – Daily stretches for flexibility and youthful suppleness – Light strength training three times a week for strong muscles and bones

3. Optimal Sleep Hygiene

Good sleep is crucial for cellular renewal (physical and mental recovery and rejuvenation). Going to bed at the same time every day and getting 7.5 to 8 hours of sleep in a cool bedroom (19°C) not only provides better rest, but also supports the production of brown fat – a special type of adipose tissue that boosts your metabolism. Unlike ordinary (white) adipose tissue, brown fat has the unique ability to burn calories for heat production. This process is also called thermogenesis and plays an important role in maintaining your energy levels and metabolism. Cold exposure, such as sleeping in a cool room, stimulates the activity and production of this “good” fat.

4. Phytonutrients and essential oils.

In my search for natural energy boosters, I have found some products that have helped me tremendously*: – MetaPWR softgels for optimal metabolism (fat burning) – MetaPWR Mito2Max for sustained energy and mental sharpness – Serenity softgels to support regenerative sleep *Results may vary from person to person. A new phase of strength

Menopause is not an end point or aging process, but a biological gift that frees us from the energy-intensive processes of reproduction. It gives us the freedom to focus our energy on personal growth, leadership and vitality.
With the right knowledge and support, this phase can be the beginning of your most energetic, vital years.
